Hyperthyroidism to Hypothyroidism

If you have been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and happen to stumble upon my blog in hope to search for a solution, try acupuncture.

Although I cannot prove that it helped “cured” me but I believe it helped stimulate my body to function as it should, which is to regulate my hormones properly!

I was officially diagnosed with Grave’s in early September and within 5 months I have turned Hypo and it was because of the medication. The specialist did monitor my levels from my blood test results throughout the period and my medication has been reduced after each visit. There was a long break over Christmas and New Year, a break too long that left me suppressing my thyroid activities more than it should. Immediately I stopped taking any medication. The doctor believed that the Grave’s may have disappeared. My next blood test was taking a positive turn; my thyroid is behaving well and the levels started to normalise. My last blood test was within good levels and I will take another one in a month’s time to confirm the “gut feeling” of my endocrinologist.

So this is good news, and hope it stays that way. I’m glad I did not take the decision to have radiation destroy my thyroid. I’m sure the medication helped to control the levels, but I strongly believe that the acupuncture helped to normalise my body function in this fairly short time frame. I tried to eat better, but really not that much better from what I used to (but then again it’s not like I eat junk everyday, maybe just every other other day ;)). Also I still didn't have the time to do much exercise. I try to a little, like once a month – like walking or beginner yoga but again, really, there’s not much change to my health routine in reality.

Acupuncture is not cheap – about AUD80 per 45 minutes session and I started off with a weekly session, but reduced to twice a month now. I am trying to eat a little healthier, more fruits and vegetables in my diet but there’s no way I’m giving up ice cream. Drinking more warm water than cold sweet drinks but not stopping that. The exercise bit is something I need to work on. I do not plan to stay on acupuncture forever but I’m hoping I can do my bit to keep my body functions a little stable with this renewed start.

So good luck to me and good luck to you too.
