Travel tips - 2 weeks in Spain‏

The internet is the perfect source of information for any trip anywhere in the world. Review sites and travel blogs helped plan our travel journey (time and time again). So, to play our part to add our share of experience and hopefully help some folks out there, here is a summary of our trip, which we hope serves as a quick and easy guide for 2 weeks in Spain.
(Monseratt)
Our itinerary: 5 nights in Madrid with day trips to Toledo and Segovia, 1 night in Cordoba, 2 nights in Seville, 2 nights in Valencia and 4 nights in Barcelona with a day trip to Monseratt.

(Seville, probably the only place worth seeing here - and especially at night)

Tips - we would be happy to skip Seville, and use that time in Cordoba instead. If we had to choose only one day trip from Madrid it would be Toledo over Segovia. If you have been to Croatia (Dubrovnik and Split) it's hard to fine any old towns better than that.
Transport: Renfe all the way!
Tips - Book your tickets in advance online (especially if it's during peak seasons). They may be a little cheaper, and convenient (and ensure you do have a seat). Remember to have the train number (not just the name of the place) and departure time handy to verify the platform of your train. Don't pack any weapon-like tools, as they do bag scans before you board! If you do have luggage, it's all good - there's enough space in the overhead above the seats. All you just need some strength to lift them up. You may be able to change your train ticket to an earlier departure for free at the station (if it is a available).
Hotels: booking.com all the way!
Tips - best hotel booking website of all for Spain. Easy to read, sort and search reviews,  best price guaranteed, loads of travel information including maps, places of attraction etc. For which hotels to stay best check the recent reviews, sometimes it depends on your luck on which room you get but try requesting for away from lift, facing exterior (often interior is the air conditioning area). No kettles in most places. Although tap water is supposed to be drinkable we chose to pay for mineral instead. I like to at least have the ability to boil the tap water (but obviously that's not very possible in most hotels here). Most of our stays, we stayed in 4 stars hotels but many felt like 3 stars. Most do not have room slippers, body/hand lotion, face towels. Not crucial for us but nice to have. We were really happy with Vincci Lys at Valencia and AC Hotel by Marriot at Cordoba. Be wary when the hotel say they have safe deposits - check if it is in room or at reception (and free!).

Everyone was getting this for the 12th day of Christmas. Feliz Navidad!
